An interesting read this evening was from fellow student Lisa, who discussed in her the blog the option of a career-change, or in this case, more of a career side-step.
She spoke about the option of taking on librarianship studies. For so many years, especially as a kid, I loved the thought of becoming a librarian – all those books! (This was alongside my wish to be teacher as well. So many options!)
But as an adult, when I looked at the option of librarianship, I was discouraged by the lack of work available, especially considering it was such a specialised degree. It never even occurred to me to do it alongside a teaching degree. I was too busy thinking of it as something separate to consider how they could work together!
On my recent prac, I noticed talk often veered towards the demands for multi-tasking in teachers, with rumours of high demands for Masters degrees, and other specialisations that will be needed in future. Just being a teacher will no longer be enough. We need to be multi-skilled, and multi-tasking super-teachers!
I’d like to think that when I finish this degree (one day!), I’ll still be considering enthusiastically what I can learn next. Learning is lifelong, and there are always more skills to be learnt. Thanks for the suggestion Lisa, it’s something I’ll add to my wishlist!
