Class Dojo is described as a digital behavioural management tool. It is highly visual, fun for kids, and has the added benefit of being accessible by parents too.
Students are assigned profiles & avatars, rather cute alien looking ones. Teachers then assign points or dojos to each avatar/student whenever work is completed, certain behaviours are observed, etc. Points can be positive or negative, so students can see the consequences of their behaviour clearly. And the effects are immediate - it is all done on the IWB in front of the class, or on the teacher’s laptop or iPad, and updated regularly.
Parents are able to access their child’s results, get feedback on their behaviour and see what work has been accomplished.
I was lucky to see this tool in action in a Year 3 class on my prac this semester, and the class really enjoyed it. They actually responded quickly and positively when they knew there would be ‘dojo’ points awarded for certain tasks.
This is certainly a tool I’d like to investigate further when
I have my own classroom.
Another one for my wishlist.
PS. Emerging Ed Tech's blog does a great write up on
Class Dojo here.
